Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships

Purpose
The exclusive purpose of the Fund is to provide an annual merit-based scholarship award to one or more choristers who have demonstrated strong musical and vocal promise and whose behavior and Chorus citizenship are exemplary after completion of one-full year as a member of the Chorus. The scholarship(s) shall be applied towards the cost of each selected chorister’s tuition and music education at the San Francisco Boys Chorus.
Background
In 2007, alumnus Peter Libby, M.D. established the Madi Bacon Endowment to memorialize the Chorus’ founding artistic director and to award merit-based scholarship to boys who sing with San Francisco Boys Chorus.
What is Opera ARIA?
Opera ARIA (Arts Resources in Action) is San Francisco Opera's suite of education programs that integrates learning about opera into the classroom. All Opera ARIA programs incorporate an extended collaboration between educators and Opera teaching artists, a high level of flexibility for educators, and comprehensive professional development.
Where does SFBC fit into this?
SFBC delivers a number of workshops each year to teachers and public school children in San Francisco Unified School District. Designed to give participants the opportunity to hear good vocal music up close and explore the methods SFBC’s musicianship program follows, these workshops ensure that the art of choral singing and SFBC’s reach extends further than its own student body.
