Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships
The Board of Directors of the San Francisco Boys Chorus is delighted to announce the Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships, a new, prestigious, annual award for choristers. The award will go toward tuition, or musical education for choristers who have demonstrated the spirit and promise of the San Francisco Boys Chorus. The award is the inspiration of former chorister, Peter Libby M.D. who wanted to honor Madi Bacon who founded the Chorus in 1948. In Dr. Libby's words, the endowment fund honors her courage, her quest for excellence, her élan, and her joyful approach to learning and music making.

Background The Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for
Music Education Scholarships (“Fund”) celebrates the influence
of Madi Bacon, who founded the San Francisco Boys Chorus in
1948. She believed in economic and racial equality, in a
broadening multicultural sensibility, and in the transformative
power of music. The Fund is to honor her courage, her quest for
excellence, her élan, and her joyful approach to learning and
music making. Purpose The exclusive purpose of the Fund
is to provide an annual financial scholarship award to one or
more choristers who have demonstrated strong musical and vocal
promise and whose behavior and Chorus citizenship are exemplary.
The scholarships shall be applied towards the cost of each
selected chorister’s musical education tuition at the San
Francisco Boys Chorus. Terms and Conditions 1. Contributions shall not
contain any restrictions, conditions or designations that are
inconsistent or in conflict with these terms. 2. The Chorus reserves the right
to reject any contribution in whole or in part. All
contributions to this Fund shall be irrevocable once accepted by
the Chorus. 3. The Chorus is the owner of the
Fund and has the exclusive right and power to assign, manage,
administer and distribute the Fund, so long as its actions do
not frustrate the purpose of the Fund and/or the tax-exempt
status of the Fund. The Chorus reserves the right to terminate
the Fund if its purposes can no longer be served by its
continuation. 4. Contributions to the Fund are
tax deductible. The Chorus shall send a notice (in the form of a
letter or email) to donors acknowledging their contribution.
Such notice shall serve as a tax record of their contribution
and notice that the Chorus has accepted their contribution. |
