Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships
The Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships (“Fund”) celebrates the influence of Madi Bacon, who founded the San Francisco Boys Chorus in 1948. She believed in economic and racial equality, in a broadening multicultural sensibility, and in the transformative power of music. The Fund in her name is to honor her courage, her quest for excellence, her élan, and her joyful approach to learning and music making.
The exclusive purpose of the Fund is to provide an annual merit-based scholarship award to one or more choristers who have demonstrated strong musical and vocal promise and whose behavior and Chorus citizenship are exemplary after completion of one-full year as a member of the Chorus. The scholarship(s) shall be applied towards the cost of each selected chorister’s tuition and music education at the San Francisco Boys Chorus.
In 2007, alumnus Peter Libby, M.D. established the Madi Bacon Endowment to memorialize the Chorus’ founding artistic director and to award merit-based scholarship to boys who sing with San Francisco Boys Chorus.
In 2013, the Marin Community Foundation assumed management of the Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for the benefit of the San Francisco Boys Chorus. The Foundation is one of the nation’s premiere community foundations that uses its investment expertise to help nonprofit organizations.
The Marin Community Foundation accepts donations in the form of cash, securities, estate bequests and physical property, including works of arts and real estate. Tax deductible-donations can be made through the San Francisco Boys Chorus or directly to the Marin Community Foundation’s website www.marincf.org or by mail - 5 Hamilton Landing #200, Novato, CA 94949.
